To demonstrate the power of electromagnetism. This U shaped electromagnet has a U type iron core fitted with two bobbins which are wound with insulated copper wire. The ends of the limbs are ground flat to make good magnetic contact. Each bobbin is fitted with two 4mm socket terminals for a parallel connection to a 6V battery. Comes with soft iron armature and carrying hook. Battery not included.

Pupils can use this apparatus to study electromagnetic induction and transformer principles. It comprises a primary coil of insulated heavy gauge copper wire wound on a bobbin and fitted with 4mm socket terminals together with a secondary coil of fine insulated copper wire wound on a bobbin into which a primary coil may be fitted. These disks are contra-rotated  by a simple hand operated belt drive. Induced charge built up on the foil segments as the disc rotates is picked up by the metallised cloth wipers rubbing against them and transferred to the discharge arms. Two Leyden jar capacitors can be linked via a simple moving contact to the discharge arms. These enable higher potentials to be obtained between the discharge arms.
